Messages from the Tournament Committee

Greetings to the teams confirmed for the Ithaca Shooting Stars Invitational Tournament, Nov. 3-Dec. 2, 2007!  We are pleased that your teams will be playing in our tournament.

An updated team list is included below.  We are happy to be “full” with six teams at the four divisions.

We will send the tournament schedule as soon as possible now that we have all four complete divisions, but it may be considered tentative until later in November, as other changes may be needed that we cannot currently predict.  Teams located closest to Ithaca in each division are likely to play on Friday afternoon.  The championship games will be played late morning/early afternoon on Sunday, Dec. 2, at Lynah Rink at Cornell University.

Tompkins Girls Hockey Association (TGHA), is making preparations for a great weekend of girls hockey competition and fun.  You will be receiving updates regularly as the tournament approaches. Feel free to contact Mary Grainger at any time with questions or concerns at  IthacaInvitational@yahoo.com.

Tournament To-Do’s:

 1. Do you have your hotel rooms reserved yet?  A full list of tournament hotels is available by clicking the Lodging link on the left of this page.  We hope you are staying at one of them. If you have made other plans, could you let us know where?  Please also let us know if you encounter any difficulties at these hotels.

2. It is time for us to prepare the printed tournament program.  You will have received a document with instructions for the best way to send us your team photo, photo caption, and your team roster.  Please send the roster even if you have already sent us a version with your application. Deadline Nov. 2.

3. Please send your fees now.  Checks should be written to TGHA.  Thanks to those who have sent full payment or $100 deposits already.  Send now what you think you owe.  Those who have not yet paid in full will begin receiving specific reminders after October 15.

The team fee for this invitational tournament is $725 for 19U, 16U and 14U; 12U division is $665. All teams are guaranteed three games minimum. 19U, 16U, and 14U teams will play three 15-minute stop periods; 12U will play three 12-minute periods.

There will be NO gate fee charged at the rinks to spectators and family members.

4. Our program features display advertisements.  You will have received a
flier you can print and give to your team families.  Place a personalized message such as team or individual parents encouraging their daughters and friends and families supporting their teams. Some are placed by businesses advertising to tournament participants or showing their support of girls ice hockey.

Good Luck     Best Wishes     Go Team    Thank You Coaches

The deadline for reserving space is Monday, November 5; ad layouts are due by November 11.  Email Dennis Mogil at dennis.mogil@warrenhomes.com .  Hard copy can be mailed, or jpg or Word document can be emailed by the 11th. We thank you for your support by purchasing an ad in the tournament program.

5. Ithaca is located one hour south of Syracuse and one hour north of Binghamton and less than 30 miles from Rt. 81. The community has many resources for visitors to enjoy--parks featuring waterfalls and gorges, two colleges, museums including the popular Sciencenter, shopping, movies, restaurants, cultural and athletic events. Check out www.visitithaca.com .

Cornell University Women's Hockey (D1 NCAA) has two games scheduled during the tournament weekend at Lynah Rink on the campus:  Friday at 4:00 p.m. vs. Quinnipiac University and Saturday at 4:00 p.m. vs. Princeton University.  Tickets are readily available and can be purchased at the door; stay tuned for more information on this.

Cornell Men's Hockey will be hosting the University of Massachusetts Minutemen Friday at 7:30 p.m.  These tickets are in limited supply.  You can request tickets from the Cornell Ticket Office, and if the Tournament receives any information on special deals, we will send to registered tournament teams.  www.cornellbigred.com
