Directions, Weather, etc!
Game
Schedule:
The game schedule can be found as a Google doc at : 2009 Shooting Stars Invitational Tournament Schedule.
An electronic copy of the spreadsheet is also attached.
Home teams will wear light jerseys (except for the following cases:
12U Camillus only has light jerseys, so opponents should wear dark jerseys
16U Clifton Park only has dark jerseys, so opponents should wear light jerseys
19U Hamburg Hawks only have dark jerseys so opponents should wear light
jerseys.
Scores will be posted at both The RINK and Cass Park and on the schedule at 2009 Shooting Stars Invitational Tournament Schedule.
This link will take you to a Google docs spreadsheet that we will updated with
scores throughout the tournament. Feel free to copy the link above or use
the actual url at the end of this message.
Crossover games
will be announced as soon as they are known (where you see A1, A2, etc. on the
schedule document; third games are determined by record in the first two
games—2 points for wins, 1 for ties, 0 for losses). Information on
crossovers can be found on the scoreboards posted at the rinks and also at 2009 Shooting Stars Invitational Tournament Schedule.
which will be updated with scores as games are completed.
Tournament
Rules:
Rules can be
viewed at 2009 Shooting Stars Invitational Tournament Rules. It
is also attached.
It is our intent to offer a safe and fair hockey competition for all players.
Referees, the Tournament Committee, and the Discipline Committee will work
together in this endeavor and ask you to also encourage positive attitudes and
behaviors from your players and parents.
Off Ice
Officials:
Tompkins Girls
Hockey Association volunteers will cover all clock and scorekeeping duties, but
we ask each team to provide one adult Penalty Box worker for each of their
games at The RINK. Only one is needed for Cass Park, but it is okay to
have a maximum of two adults in that box.
Official
Rosters:
Thank you to
everyone for getting us your rosters, fees, applications, photos, captions,
etc! We do need to see a copy of your USA Hockey team registration
official roster when you check in for the first game, or you can simply bring
us a copy.
Scoresheets:
Coaches need to
sign in on the game scoresheet before each game; see the tournament info table
at each venue. Girls do not need to sign in. Scoresheets will be available soon
after the completion of each game.
Contact
Information
Matt Ulinski is
the Tournament Director and contact during the tournament. Feel free to
contact him at any time during the weekend at 607-279-8501, or in advance by
email (mattulinski@rivertrailchinooks.com). We need to
be able to reach each team during the tournament. Please provide the name
of the contact (or two), their hotel or other accommodations, their cell
phone. Send this to me in advance by email. Thank you.
Our
rinks are The RINK and Cass Park:
If you haven't been
to Ithaca before, be aware that Cass Park has a roof and wind-break but is
essentially an outdoor rink attached to a building for locker
room/lobby/concession. Spectators and coaches need to dress for the weather as
the girls will be skating to keep warm! Conversely, when it is warm the rink
can be foggy. We've never had to cancel a game, but will defer to our
referees to determine in it poses a safety hazard.. Our girls prefer this hard
ice surface to many totally enclosed rinks they experience...especially when
it's been cold.
Community
Service Opportunity:
Travel hockey
players sometimes don’t have time to do much community service, but there is an
easy one when you are at the Ithaca Shooting Stars Invitational. Our
Rotary Clubs are collecting new and lightly used outer-wear through the Share
the Warmth campaign. There is a large well-marked crate in the lobby of
The RINK for donations especially of children’s coats, snowpants, hats, gloves,
scarves and boots.
Go Big Red
Hockey:
The Cornell
Women's Hockey team will be entertaining Yale on Dec. 4 at 7:00 PM and Brown on
Dec. 5 at 4:00 p.m.; admission is generously being waived by Cornell Athletics
and Cornell Women's Hockey for all players wearing their team jerseys and
accompanying family members.
The Cornell Women's club team is also playing at 11AM on Saturday
All games are played at Cornell's Lynah Rink
High School Hockey Info Meeting:
Mary Grainger and Paul Zarach, coach of the Ithaca High Girl's Hockey team,
are planning to hold an informal meeting about high school hockey. The
exact time has not been set, but if this is of interest to you or your
coaches/players please contact Mary Grainger at: MMGIthaca@aol.com
or (cell) 607-280-4380.
Mary Grainger Passes on the Reins:
Mary Grainger has been your contact for the Shooting Stars Tournament for
many years. She is now passing on the reins of her many responsibilities
to others in TGHA as her last daughter ages out . Mary graciously offered
to help me organize the tournament again this year - being your primary contact
(and tutoring me). It is now time for me to allow Mary to step back, so if
you have questions or concerns in the next weeks, please contact me at mattulinski@rivertrailchinooks.com or (cell) 607-279-8501. (Mary will be at the tournament, but this time (hopefully)
enjoying watching others doing the bulk of the work!)
Matt Ulinski, Ithaca
Shooting Stars Invitational Tournament Director
Tournament
Special Features:
Please
share with your families!
No Gate
Admission will be charged, but we hope you will buy the tournament program featuring team
photos, schedule and scoreboard, and information about TGHA sponsors and area
restaurants.
Raffle
table will be at The RINK lobby with many great hockey-related items as well as others featuring
local items or ones that travel hockey families will enjoy.
Tournament
apparel will be on sale in The RINK lobby. This year there will also be a
sports jewelry vendor; holiday shopping opportunity while watching the girls
play!
Action
photography will be
offered at many RINK games. Even though many of us have digital cameras
now and photo printing options at home, the photographer's cameras are superior
at catching hockey action. In addition to standard photos print options,
he will probably offer CDs for you to take home for your personal use.

Two further
clarifications:
1. We wll be
asking you to present a copy of your official USA Hockey roster at check-in,
but we do not need to have a copy in advance. This shows us that you are
a registered team, but credentials check-in is not part of the invitational
tournament format.
2. I wasn't clear
about how we need your player/coach list to arrive. Please give us a
"plain text" list in the order as requested below and send as an
email or as a Word document attachment. We need it in this simple format
instead of a spreadsheet or table for various things related to the tournament
such as scoresheets, team list option on tournament apparel, and our rink
decorations.
Thanks!!
Mary

Below is what
was sent to you earlier this month with boldface type added for critical action
items. Thank you to those who have already sent their complete payments,
rosters, and photos...and to those considering ad
placement. (Consider sending the ad document to all of your team
members...maybe they will place an ad thanking YOU, their coach or manager!)
If you are
unsure of what you need to do asap to finish your arrangements for the Ithaca
Shooting Stars Invitational, contact me for clarification.
You may be
getting curious about the game schedule for Dec. 4-6; we will send it to you as
soon as it is available in November. (We do not want to release it and
then find teams have not completed these expectations due to withdrawal from
the tournament....do let us know if there is any chance your fees, rosters and
photos are not coming due to possible withdrawal!)
Thank you very
much
