TGHA Programs

Travel Teams

The Ithaca Shooting Stars travel teams are TGHA’s "select" teams. The travel teams are "tryout" teams for those players who desire a competitive environment and a chance to play outside of the Ithaca area. The Shooting Stars allow the more advanced player a chance to improve her skills, learn sophisticated team concepts and compete for local, regional, state and USA Hockey National Championships.  Link to Guidelines for Selection of Tournament-Bound Teams or Players and Parents for more information.

Initiation Program

In the Initiation program, beginners of any age learn to skate in hockey skates and learn to play the game. The emphasis is on skill building, team play and fun!  How many years a girl plays in the Initiation program depends on her age, previous skating experience, and level of interest.  Coaches assess girls’ skills throughout the season, and make recommendations to girls for their placement in Initiation, House, and Recreation programs.

Recreation Program

TGHA’s Recreation program is offered for Middle School and High School girls with some hockey experience, but who are not interested in playing on a Travel Team.  Skill sessions are held once per week.  Some members of the Recreation program may also sign up for the IYHA Coed Recreation program Mondays 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Cass ParkSkill development, fun, and fellowship are aspects of the game that are stressed in an effort to develop a solid foundation that leads to a lifetime of hockey playing enjoyment.
