Community Service Opportunity

Below is information about the annual clothing drive that includes a  dropoff
box in The RINK lobby.  Since everyone in TGHA is at The RINK  some time(s)
before December 7, please consider participating.

The 21 teams coming to our tournament Dec. 5-7 have also been asked to  bring
warmth to share when they are in Ithaca, too. No matter how busy  the winter
schedule of hockey families, we can find ways to celebrate the  meaning of the
holiday season by helping those in need.

Share the Warmth unites our caring community

Rotary Club  members work side-by-side with warm-hearted people from Cornell
University,  Ithaca College, other local Rotary Clubs and many other caring
groups throughout  the community to collect warm winter outerwear for our
neighbors in need.
Share the Warmth is open to all families who are in need of winter outerwear.
We believe that when families on tight budgets are provided with winter
clothing, their limited funds can be used to pay for other primary needs, like
food, rent, heat, child care, medical bills and transportation.
The Ithaca Rotary Club first started Share the Warmth 16 years ago when
several Rotarians agreed that warm clothing was one of the biggest needs for
families during the early winter months. Share the Warmth is now an annual event
and is sponsored by a partnership of the Ithaca Rotary Club, Catholic
Charities  of Tompkins/Tioga's Samaritan Center, Cornell University and Ithaca
College.  Each year at this time volunteers from the partnership have collected new
or  gently used winter clothes for distribution to those in need.
Last year, thanks to generous donations from our community members to Share
the Warmth, hundreds of families received coats, blankets and warm winter
clothing during the three-day distribution. This year, Share the Warmth clothing
will be available to needy families for two weeks, from Monday, Dec. 1, to
Friday, Dec. 12 at the Samaritan Center. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday
to Friday and 4-7 p.m. Thursdays.
The Share the Warmth Committee asks for the help of the entire community to
increase donations and make sure there are enough items to go to all in need.
Collection started throughout the county continues through Monday, Dec. 8.
Items to be collected this year are limited to outerwear (coats, hats, gloves,
scarves, winter boots, mittens, snowsuits and snow pants) and blankets.
Especially needed are outdoor winter items for children.
Boxes will be located at BorgWarner, P&C Markets, Wegmans, Tops,  The Rink
(Lansing), Kendal at Ithaca, The Mall Cleaners  (Triphammer Mall), Wal-Mart,
K-Mart, Seneca Place on The Commons, HSBC Banks,  ShurSave Food Market, and at
locations throughout Cornell University and Ithaca  College. Please help by
dropping off your good quality, gently used or new winter  outerwear and blankets.
Let's work together to keep our community a warm and  welcoming place to live.
