Wear Hockey Clothes Oct. 24!

If girls of all ages wear their jersey or other hockey clothing items on Monday and Friday, it raises the visibility of TGHA when we are encouraging girls to come to Try Girls Hockey and Open House to consider joining us!

Parents and coaches can do the same at work or in the community as their hockey clothes can be a reminder to talk up TGHA to the parents and friends of potential new girls hockey players!  It's worth a try!

Potential players can be added to this yahoogroup at any time as a way to become in the loop with TGHA, or you can refer them to the web site: www.ithacagirlshockey.com.

Monday is Open House

Oct. 27

6:30 p.m. at The RINK

Open House brings together everyone in TGHA for the kickoff of the season....or is it a faceoff?

All newcomers and their parents attend and get to know continuing members of TGHA and their families, and the entire coaching staff.  Refreshments, door prizes, music, on-ice fun, and off-ice rally!

Hockey equipment isn't worn for Open House; no sticks or pucks will be in use.  Street clothes and hockey skates are the dress code although girls and coaches on the ice can wear jerseys or hockey sweatshirts if they wish.  Beginners may be more comfortable with some safety equipment; elbow and shin guards work well and/or their helmet.

Questions?  Call Mary at 280-4380.

Sunday is Take a Shot at Hockey

Oct. 26

The RINK

Boys and girls (ages 4-10) are invited to try on hockey equipment and take the ice with IYHA and TGHA coaches to experience the ‘coolest game in town’.  Arrive at 8:30 a.m. for the 9:00 a.m. ice time.  Parents will need to sign in and should stay in the rink lobby during this fun introduction that will end at 10:00 a.m.  Its not necessary to even know how to skate! Questions:  Brian Crane  bc69@cornell.edu   Tom O’Neil  277-4600

Regular Season Begins

How to Register for TGHA
Players, Coaches, and On-Ice Assistants

Girls and coaches may register with TGHA for the 2008-09 season at Open House Oct. 27 or by following these instructions.

If you are unable to attend a registration session, please contact me, Cathy Long, TGHA Registrar, 257-4005. You may also send information to the TGHA postal mailbox (Attn: TGHA Registrar, PO Box 3962, Ithaca, NY 14852) for non-time sensitive information.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL FORMS AND PAYMENT as noted below ARE REQUIRED BEFORE PARTICIPANTS GET ON THE ICE.

VP Kathey MacQueen can collect registration paperwork at the first practices on Oct. 30 and Nov. 3.

What to bring to registration: Register on-line with USA Hockey before attending practice and before registering. Bring a printed copy of your electronic registration confirmation. All returning players, coaches, and newcomers must be registered with USAHockey prior to going on the ice.  Cost is $33 to USAH if over age 6.

See USA Hockey website for instructions:  www.usahockeyregistration.com.  A parent/guardian must complete the registration for girls who are under age 18.  TGHA will reimburse coaches for their USAH registration (and for training expenses).  If you do not have internet access or need to make arrangements for a form of payment to USAH other than credit/debit card, please contact TGHA Registrar Cathy Long, 257-4005, cel3@cornell.edu.

Complete the following forms: Bring completed forms or fill out copies available at registration events.  See TGHAs website for copies of these forms http://www.ithacagirlshockey.com/registration/how_to_reg.html

TGHA Membership Form
TGHA Parent Code of Conduct (Parent signature needed)
USAHockey Consent to Treat
USAHockey Player Code of Conduct

If you are coming to TGHA from another association, you need to bring your official release paperwork from your previous association. (NYSAHA Forms at www.nysaha.com)

Payment will be collected at the time of registration as follows (see season fee information below; checks to TGHA; we are unable to process credit card payments):

Full fees are payable in one or two checks, each for ½ the season fee amount, at the time of registration, the first check with the current date and the second check dated no later than Dec. 31, 2008.

Financial aid is available. TGHA has a small financial aid fund to assist families with demonstrated financial need.  You may qualify based on either a) household income or b) other circumstance that pose a financial hardship, such as loss of job.  In order to distribute these resources appropriately, applicants must provide a completed TGHA financial aid application to the TGHA Registrar prior to or at registration or travel team formation.  Financial aid funds are limited.  We will meet as much need as possible but individual awards are never more than 50% of the seasons registration fee and are based on family income, circumstance of financial hardship, and available financial aid funds.  See the application for additional information.  Please contact the TGHA Registrar, Cathy Long, at cel3@cornell.edu, or 607-257-4005 with questions.

TGHA Wants Your [Spare] Hockey Gear
Do you have any extra hockey gear? TGHA is always accepting donations to TGHA's equipment collection. This equipment is used by players who are new to hockey and want to try the sport out without making a big initial investment and by those who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford new gear. From the IRS, "If you give property to a qualified organization you generally can deduct the fair market value of the property at the time of the contribution.  TGHA is a qualified organization. TGHA can provide you with a letter for your tax records, but we don't have any way to appraise your donations.   IRS Publication 526 has more info on charitable contributions. Contact Louise Derraugh, 319 4352, dlderra@yahoo.ca, or  Matt Ulinski, 257-5600, mattulinski@rivertrailchinooks.com

Hockey Equipment Available to Borrow

TGHA has a limited number of skates, pads, jerseys and even goalie equipment ready to be loaned out for the season. Louise Derraugh will help newcomers and continuing members who wish to borrow equipment.  Contact her at Contact Louise Derraugh, 319 4352, dlderra@yahoo.ca. Instant Replay Sports at The RINK or on Third Street in Ithaca is a good source for used equipment for purchase.
