A Message Regarding Assistant Coaches
Team Formation Weekend Information
Next Board Meeting

Would you like to be an Assistant Coach?

TGHA is lucky to have a great and talented group of volunteer coaches for the coming season. Head Coaches have been announced and they are expected to select their assistants directly. If you know for certain that you’ll be assisting a particular team, please read the following information. If you have an interest in coaching but have not yet approached the Head Coach, use this link to contact them http://www.ithacagirlshockey.com/teams/teams.htm

For confirmed and returning Assistant Coaches you need to be aware that there's both TGHA and USA Hockey registration, and training and screening requirements to fulfill during the preseason.

First, complete the registration process with TGHA and USA Hockey following the step-by-step instructions on the TGHA website http://www.ithacagirlshockey.com/registration/how_to_reg.html.

It will be appreciated if you complete your registrations by September 16th.

Second, make sure that you have a valid and appropriate level coaching card issued by USA Hockey. For the Initiation, House and Recreation programs you’ll need a Level 1 coaching card. For 12U Travel you need a Level 2 coaching card, and for 14U-19U Travel you must have a Level 3 coaching card.

Coaching Clinics will be available in the Central New York area.
As soon as possible, check the dates and registration details on the TGHA website
http://www.ithacagirlshockey.com/coaching/coaching.html

Third, screening of all Coaches, Team Managers and other adults regularly in contact with players under the age of 18 is necessary. A new on-line screening form is being developed by the NYSAHA and further details will be sent to TGHA in several weeks.
We look forward to seeing you on the ice. Remember your helmet!

TGHA Travel Team Formation Sessions, September 13 and 14
Welcome new and returning players and families!

We are looking forward to another fun and successful TGHA Travel Season.  TGHA forms travel teams to develop and support our players, and to provide the girls with a positive competitive team experience.  We are hoping for enough players this year to form travel teams at four age groups: 12U, 14U, 16U, and 19U.  If necessary, we may combine two age groups into a single team.

It is essential that all girls who wish to play travel  team hockey come to the registration / team formation ice sessions. If you absolutely cannot attend the team formation session on Saturday, Sept. 13, you must pre-register and communicate with the coaches before team formations so the we have a full and timely count of players.  We cannot promise that there will be a suitable team, or a place on any team, for girls who wait until after team formation to sign-up with TGHA.

In the coming days this link will be updated so you can register with TGHA, and find a link to USA Hockey, http://www.ithacagirlshockey.com/registration/how_to_reg.html

Girls should attend the team formation ice sessions for the age group that matches their birth date.  Please come to The Rink one hour before your ice time to allow time to complete your registration, to get your equipment on, and to meet with the coaches before you go on the ice,

Players are encouraged to talk to the coaches if they have questions about participation in TGHA travel teams or the travel team formations.

TGHA players and parents should read the team formation guidelines on the TGHA web site at: http://www.ithacahockey.com/registration/travel_guidelines.html.

Final team formation decisions will be made and communicated to players prior to the pre-season practices on Tuesday, September 16.

Try outs for a Travel Team at a higher age group:

Girls who wish to play on a travel team at an age group above their own should first communicate with the coaches (or contact persons) of both age groups.

Girls should attend the team formation ice sessions for the age group that matches their birth date.  They should also attend the team formation ice sessions for the higher age group for which they wish to be considered.

Players are encouraged to talk to the coaches before and/or after the first session if they have any questions about whether or not they should attend sessions for both age groups.

Final team formation decisions will be made and communicated to players before the pre-season practices on Tuesday, September 16.
