Thanks for Monday

Welcome to the new families whose daughters came to "Bring a Friend to Practice" on Monday!

Thanks to everyone who helped out on the ice and off the ice as we hosted girls interested in trying ice hockey and possibly joining for the second half of the season in Initiation or House.  Thanks also to those who brought in some used sticks and used equipment since our supply of certain pieces of equipment is low.  Things worked well on Monday due to cooperation of many....and the current members being welcoming to the new girls, too!

Cub Club Bowling

Save the date! Wednesday January 14th 6:30 - 8:30pm for the Cub Club bowling party at Helen Newman Lanes. Come join your big sisters for a fun filled night of bowling and pizza. This is always one of the most popular events we have so you don't want to miss it.

Please RSVP by e-mailing me at wmw9@cornell.edu so we can get an approximate head count for pizza and refreshments.

Thanks,
Wayde Whittaker

Hockey Weekend Across America

Stay tuned for more news and visit the site to register to win prizes, but in the meantime, are there any parents who would like to organize a special celebration for the local girls hockey community?

The NYSAHA, in conjunction with USA Hockey, will be celebrating the second annual “Hockey Weekend Across America” from February 13-15th, 2009.  Hockey Weekend Across America, presented by Reebok, is an initiative led by USA Hockey to celebrate the game and all those involved in the sport at all levels, while also sharing hockey with new audiences.

Each of the three days of Hockey Weekend Across America has a theme, including Friday (Feb. 13) Wear Your Favorite Hockey Jersey; Saturday (Feb. 14) Bring a Friend to the Rink; and Sunday (Feb. 15) Celebrate Local Hockey Heroes. Organizations at all levels, including the NHL, American Hockey League, ECHL, NCAA, United States Hockey League and North American Hockey League are participating in Hockey Weekend Across America.

USA Hockey is conducting a contest for best Hockey Weekend Across America programming with the grand-prize winner receiving 25 sets of OneGoal starter equipment ($4,000 value), plus $2,000. Additionally, five runner-up prizes of $1,000 will be awarded. The entry form can be obtained at HockeyWeekendAcrossAmerica.com.  In the inaugural event held last year, Skaneateles Youth Hockey took home the grand prize honors as they celebrated the event on an outdoor rink in the heart of the community.

In addition to these themed events, Fans will have a chance to win one of 45 Reebok EDGE authentic National Hockey League jerseys during Hockey Weekend Across America's Great Jersey Giveaway.  Fifteen prize winners each day during Hockey Weekend Across America will receive their favorite NHL jersey from Reebok.  Entry is open to U.S. citizens ages 13 and older and those eligible may register one time only at HockeyWeekendAcrossAmerica.com, between 12 noon MT on Wednesday, Jan. 7, and 11:59 p.m. MT on Thursday, Feb. 12.

Entities across the country are encouraged to submit their plans for Hockey Weekend Across America by filling out a short online form at HockeyWeekendAcrossAmerica.com.  The NYSAHA would like to help promote events that will be held in our district and need your help to do so. If your local organization plans to hold an event please register the event through USA Hockey.  In addition, we ask that you also submit your plans to your section president prior to January 25th.  Our goal is to establish a district wide calendar so that we can promote these events across New York State.

We hope that your local organization will consider taking part in this exciting celebration of the sport and we look forward to hearing about your plans.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact Joe Eppolito at 315-686-2226 or by e-mail at jeppolit@twcny.rr.com.
