2007 Shooting Stars Invitational Tournament - A Success!

This year's 2007 Shooting Stars Invitational Tournament was a huge success.  Thanks to everyone who showed up to help out (sometimes to the wrong rink - my fault, sorry for that)!  We could not have done it without the countless hours many of you put in over the weekend.  Thanks to Mary Grainger for seeming to be everywhere at the same time (I am now sure there are two of her).  Thanks to Cathy Long, John Golay and Judy Yonkin for helping to plan the tournament and manage the rink sites.  Thanks to Dennis Mogil for putting together the program - we are going to miss your doing this for us in the future!  Thanks to Barbara Horton for the hard work lining up sponsors and lending us the disco ball (which together with lava lamps and smiley faces really made it feel like the 70's).  Thanks to Jule Umbach, Maria Rabb and Wendy Lyon for help setting up and decorating. Thanks to Barb Just for the music.  Thanks to Russ and all the crew at the Rink, to all the folks at Cass Park and Lynah who helped make things go smoothly there.  And thanks to all those who worked clocks, filled out scoresheets, sold raffle tickets, answered questions and were just good hosts to all our visitors.

Skate with the Big Red

The annual Skate with the Big Red program is back this Friday, December 7, at Lynah Rink.  This year both the men’s and women’s teams will be participating.  Prior to the public joining the teams on the ice, the men will feature a skills competition such as fastest skater, hardest and most accurate shot.  It would be an excellent opportunity to collect college autographs and have your picture taken with your favorite players.

The event begins at 7:00 p.m. and admission is free.  However, donations will be accepted by members of the Cornell Hockey Association to benefit the Loaves and Fishes in downtown Ithaca.  Loaves and Fishes serves free meals five days a week, all year long, and needs continuing support throughout the year to meet the needs of the community.  Each weekday 115 to 160 guests are welcomed, and over 3,000 meals are prepared and served each month. It takes the effort of over 80 weekly scheduled volunteers, along with continuous food donations and financial support to be successful.  Loaves and Fishes also provides information and referrals and facilitates outreach from the area agencies.

Team photos suitable for collecting autographs for both teams will be provided free of charge.  If you have any questions, please call the Cornell Hockey Office at 255-4171.
