Thanks to PBN Participants

Saturday night the following coaches became certified to lead the Girl Scouts/Girls Hockey program called Put the Biscuit in the Net: Diane Duthie, Matt Ulinski, Barbara Horton, Ed Pasto and Becky Waddle.  Mary Grainger learned to be the PBN administrator. They were oriented by Yevet Anderson of Erie, PA, founder of the program.  Thanks to all of them and to the seven scouts who played the role of PBN participants: Grace, Risa, Zsofi, Sophie P, Sophie B, Sarah and Kathryn!

Also we need TGHA parents and players to volunteer as well as the certified coach/leaders.  Sign up for one or more sessions by contacting Mary at mmgithaca@aol.com.

Ithaca Lansing Girl Scouts invited....

Welcome to the nationally popular “Put the Biscuit in the Net” Program. This is a great opportunity for girls ages 5-19 a chance to experience the wonderful sport of girls ice hockey. The teamwork of the Girl Scouts of the USA, Tompkins Girls Hockey Association (TGHA), and NYSAHA (New York State Amateur Hockey Association district of USA Hockey) has made the Ithaca area PBN program possible.

Girls/Women’s Ice Hockey is one of the fastest growing sports in America. Over 46,000 girls and women currently play hockey in the United States. In today’s society we are all looking for a way to expose our young women to activities that will nurture life skills, sportsmanship, friendship, leadership and, most of all, wholesome, fun activities that can last a lifetime. The joining of Girl Scouts and girls hockey is natural. The PBN sessions are designed to introduce girls to the basics of ice hockey in a format similar to other scout programs with a patch to be earned and other familiar components.

Three available sessions:
At The RINK, E. Shore Drive
On ice 4:45-5:45 p.m.
Arrive at 4:15, Depart at 6:00 p.m.
Recommended to participate in all three if possible

Wed. Dec. 5
Tues. Dec. 18
Thurs. Jan. 3

Arrive in time to get equipment on before the on-ice activities; all equipment is provided for participants

Cost $10 for three sessions includes snacks, ice time, official patch; scholarships available.  Payment at first session in cash or check to TGHA.

Coaches and players from TGHA will be at every session (Special guests from Cornell women's ice hockey, the Ithaca Shooting Stars, the Ithaca High girls varsity team, and possibly the USA Olympic team will be invited, too.)

For more information about TGHA: www.ithacagirlshockey.com

To sign up as a troop or as individual Girl Scouts, contact Mary Grainger, 257-3268, mmgithaca@aol.com.

Note: Space is limited.  Ithaca Lansing scouts are given first priority but scouts from other area service units will also be invited.

Tournament Fundraising Raffle

Travel Teams may participate in the tournament raffle as a fundraising event.  It's a great way to earn some money to help defray the costs of your other tournaments. This can be a group project or be done by several individuals.  (Intiation/House/Recreation members don't have to participate, but you are welcome to!)

Your team can participate by donating:
1) assembled "theme" baskets and
2) single larger-dollar items.

Baskets of goods should be valued at an approx. minimum of $30, as should individual items.  Themes can be geared toward adults or children - in addition to adults, lots of players and siblings bought tickets last year.

Most of you and your team parents have seen raffle baskets at other sporting events.  For our newer members, examples of raffle items could be:
Game basket - board games, puzzle, yo-yo, deck of cards
Wine & cheese - bottle of wine, wine glasses, decorative corks, cheese board
Play poker basket - poker chips, cards, how-to play poker book, snacks/candy
Stay warm at the game basket - hat, scarf, gloves, hot cocoa mix, hand warmers
Golf;  bath & body; scrapbooking; teen hair & nails...
        New hockey stick
Cornell hockey hoodie...just about anything you can imagine.  If you can get items donated,

that's  all the better; otherwise your team members cover the purchases.

The more items to raffle the better - we're not charging admission, so spectators will love to buy raffle tickets!!!

Let Matt Ulinski know if you have questions or if you know you are putting together a basket or providing a significant item, mattulinski@yahoo.com, 257-5600
