Welcome to More Newcomers!

More email addresses were added this weekend for new members of TGHA.  Welcome!

TGHA Updates will come into your email box, but you may also use our web site and our bulletin boards for current info; boards are maintained at Cass and The RINK or visit www.ithacagirlshockey.com.

If your family has additional email addresses you would like to receive TGHA emails, send a message to mmgithaca@aol.com.

We are seeking some Initiation parents to buddy up with some families who don't use email; let VP House Karen know.  skemuck@yahoo.com

It is advisable to 'register' with yahoogroups.  This is NOT getting a yahoo address.  It is creating a yahoo ID and password so that you can enter the password protected areas including the Message Archives for TGHA-All.

Cub Club Signups by Tuesday

ATTENTION PARENTS of newcomers to Initiation and House!!!

Last Chance before the 'pairing ceremony' to join the Cub Club!

We would like to give everyone one last opportunity to sign up for the 2007-2008 Cub Club.
I know that there was alot going on at the open house, so if you were interested in Cub Club but didn't sign up that night here's your chance.

If your new to TGHA and dont know whats involved with being a member of the Cub Club here's a brief summary.

Your daughter will be paired up with a "big sister/mentor" who is a member of the Cornell Womens Hockey Team! They get to experience hockey at the collegiate level and make a new friend who is a positive role model, and with any luck the Cornell player gets a lasting relationship with a local family they may otherwise never have met.

They have fun get togethers with the Cornell Women such as movie night at Lynah, and bowling at Helen Newman, and depending on your individual preference You may choose to invite your new big sister to participate in activities outside the program ie; invite them to dinner, have them attend your practices, the possibilities are endless.

The girls have the chance to be honorary stick girls and get introduced on the ice at Cornell Womens home games, and if they wish they can don the bear costume and skate in front of the fans between periods! All Cub Club members get FREE admission to Cornell Womens Hockey home games!

And the cost for all of this? There is none! It's all included in your regular season fees!

We would like to finalize our list and schedule the pairing ceremony soon, so if your interested in signing up please contact Wayde Whittaker no later than Tuesday November 6th. He can be reached at 387-3577 or wmw9@cornell.edu.

Recreational Hockey for Girls

On Thursday, Nov. 1, one of the Ithaca Sirens who has also been an IYHA coach, came on the ice with the two currently registered players for "Recreation".  There's room for many more girls to join the fun on Thursdays from 6:45-7:45 p.m. at Cass Park.  Any girl who knows how to play (has completed Initiation or the equivalent) and is in middle or high school is encouraged to join "Recreation" for this season.  It may be possible to do a half season if you have a conflict on some Thursdays.  The team will also play some games this season if enough girls sign up.

Another option for girls of this age group is to skate with the coed IYHA Recreation Program which began October 29.  It continues on Mondays from 7:00 to 8:30pm at Cass Park.  Rick Kuhar says it's not necessary to be there the first week or two.  He will be there to get the program started.   Players should show up with a dark/red and a light/white jersey.  Soon they will use the IYHA red/white jerseys.

The Recreation Program is a weekly fun scrimmage for IYHA players Pee Wees through Midgets, Travel, UNY,
Snowbelt, and players who are aren't playing in any league, but would like to stay in the game for the fun of it.  TGHA players are also welcome. The game is fast paced, no checking or slapshots, and a friendly spirit of competition is maintained and emphasized. We have a number of players already registered for the program.  If you are not pre-registered, but are interested in joining us, you will need to do the following:

If you are a TGHA player who is already registered with USA Hockey, you will need to complete the IYHA registration forms located on the IYHA website.  You may hand the forms and check to Rick at the session: www.ithacayouthhockey.com  If you are not yet registered with either USA Hockey, you will need to go on the USA Hockey website and register for the 2007-08 season.  Print out the USA Hockey confirmation form.  Go on the IYHA website and print out all the IYHA forms.  Complete the IYHA registration forms.  Package up the hard copy USA Hockey confirmation, the IYHA registration form and a check for $235 made out to IYHA.  You may turn the forms and check in to me at the session.

If you've never participated in the recreation program, stop by and check this out.  We've been having a blast the past couple of years with this.  No drills, no coaches, no leagues, no trophies, we use the scoreboard, but like "Whose Line Is It Anyway?", the points mean nothing...... just a bunch of young men and women having fun playing the game of hockey!

Beginner Hockey for Women?

Did you see the cover story of American Hockey magazine?!  More and more moms of hockey players are learning the sport as adults.

TGHA could decide to use part of the ice during the Recreation girls' ice times on Thursday for beginner women to learn the basics (before they'd be ready to play with the Recreation girls or with the Ithaca Furies or Sirens).

If you'd like to learn to play ice hockey (whether this year on Thursdays or some other time in the future), send an email to TGHA0708@yahoo.com.  The TGHA Board will consider this informal survey when they next meet on November 13.
