Welcome to Newcomers

Welcome to TGHA to all the newcomers this season who have attended 'try hockey' events and Open House, and are now beginning to skate with TGHA or who are considering joining this year!

1. If you are thinking about joining, please ask us any questions you have about our programs or about the sport of girls ice hockey.  VP House Karen can be reached at 539-6920, or email us at TGHA0708@yahoo.com.  Other TGHA leaders are listed on the web site and the yellow handout.

2. Yahoogroups.com gives TGHA a good way to manage our email lists and to send weekly newsletters to all members.  Please create a user name and password so you will have full access to the web area for TGHA-All (message archives and some other features).

P.S. Thanks to everyone in TGHA who helped welcome newcomers at the IYHA/TGHA Take a Shot at Hockey event, at the TGHA Try Girls Hockey event, and at this week's Open House.  Many pitch in for these events--with publicity, refreshments, on-ice activities, equipment fitting, greeting, etc.

Good luck to the 14U and 16/19U Shooting Stars who are participating in the Fire on Ice girls hockey tournament in Rochester.  (Some team members will also spectate at the RIT Tigers women's team games vs. the Oswego Lakers.  Shooting Stars alumnae Emily McPherson of RIT and Emily Grippin of Oswego will be opposing each other in this matchup at RIT! Oswego is coached by Cornell alumna and former asst. Cornell coach Diane Dillon.)

How to Register

Follow instructions in the yellow handout or on the web site.  It is important to register with USA Hockey before going on the ice for the first regular season practice (starts Nov. 1!).  Cathy Long can answer questions about registration at cel3@cornell.edu, 257-4005.                  

Equipment Loan Program

Louise Derraugh can assist newcomers in getting gear from the TGHA Equipment Loan program or advising on purchases to make.  dlderra@yahoo.ca

Happy 35th Anniversary

Celebrate TGHA's historic 35th anniversary by:

a. All players will be given a patch to sew on their jersey to be worn this season, and kept afterwards.

b. Car Window Decals are on sale for $3.50 or free with $35.00 tax deductible donation (to TGHA scholarship and equipment funds). Cash or checks to TGHA.  Someone from each team will have an envelope for decal sales.

Gimme Coffee Sales

TGHA annually has a fundraising coffee sale featuring locally roasted (as well as brewed and blended in their stores) Gimme coffee.  Order packets are being distributed and will also be accessible on the web.  Contact Fundraising Chair Barbara Horton with questions, homesweethome@fltg.net, 227-8897. Orders by Nov. 13 will be fulfilled by Nov. 19 for Thanksgiving, and Dec. 4 for Dec. 10 for winter holidays. Someone from each team will be asked to collect on those dates and to help deliver when orders come in.

TGHA Clothing

By Thursday everyone should have received a TGHA Clothing Order form, or they can access from the web site.  Orders are due back to team representative on Thursday Nov. 15 (and deliveries will be before the winter holidays). Contact Judy Yonkin with questions, jly5@cornell.edu.

Hockeyfest Thanks

A special thanks to Wayde Whittaker, Dave Herrick, Frank DiMarco, Karen Muckstadt, Catherine Dunk, and the other volunteers who made Hockeyfest Day at Cornell a reality.  Everyone enjoyed the special events and both the Women's and Men's games were big wins for Cornell.  We will be sure to try and arrange a similar event again next year.  Thanks again to everyone who helped out.
