Be a “True Friend” – introduce someone to the game you love!

Girls in Initiation, House, Recreation, or Travel – bring a friend to one of the upcoming TGHA events designed to introduce new players to our sport, and show them why you love the game:

Saturday, Oct. 13, 9:30-11:00 am – Take a Shot at Hockey - A free opportunity for boys and girls ages 4 and up to wear some hockey equipment (helmets and gloves required when on the ice) and discover the 'coolest sport around'.  Skate rentals will be free; hockey equipment will be available to borrow for the morning. Coaches from both Ithaca Youth Hockey Association and Tompkins Girls Hockey Association will be on hand to lead on-ice activities and to answer questions. TGHA players (wearing helmets and hockey skates, sticks and gloves optional) who are old enough to help younger girls and boys learn can come on the ice as helpers. Questions about the event can be directed to Rick for IYHA at rk30@cornell.edu 273-3921, and for TGHA, contact Karen at TGHA0708@yahoo.com ,539-6920.

Monday, Oct. 22, 6:30-8:00 pm – Try Girls Hockey – Another free opportunity to try on hockey equipment and get on the ice to skate, but this one is just for girls!  This night is best for your friends who are beginners and who might be interested in joining Initiation hockey. TGHA Initiation and House girls who bring a friend can skate, too (but need to be registered for the season!)

Monday, Oct 29, 6:30-8:00 pm – Open House – This is our traditional opening event for the new TGHA season and you’re ALL invited to be there to get together with your team-mates and to bring a friend along who is new to hockey or who hasn’t been playing hockey for awhile.  We’re looking not only for your friends who might want to play Initiation or House, but also older girls (middle school and high school) who might be interested in joining Recreation.  This night is just for socializing (no need for full hockey equipment) – fun, prizes, and food!

All three events occur at The RINK, 1767 East Shore Drive, north of Ithaca.

Watch for Flyers for TGHA Event and Programs

Watch for flyers to come home in your elementary school girl’s backpack regarding TGHA’s upcoming special events and regular season programs.  A copy of the flyer is attached for those of you who want to pass them around to potentially-interested girls.

Note:  anyone who would be available to drop off flyers or posters at any of the elementary, middle, and high schools in ICSD, Dryden, Trumansburg, Newfield, Groton, Lansing, or other area schools, activity centers, or stores, please contact Catherine at sdunk@twcny.rr.com and she’ll be sure to get some to you.  Help us maintain a strong hockey program by getting the word out!

Hockeyfest Volunteers Needed

Update: Cub Club Chair Wayde Whittaker needs just 3 or 4 adult volunteers, and as many girls who are available and interested, to assist with the off-ice aspects of next Sunday's Cornell Hockeyfest.  Contact him at wmw9@cornell.edu, 327-1588.

Cornell Hockeyfest! What promises to be a great day and hopefully the start of a new tradition for hockey lovers of all ages! Cornell women's hockey coach Doug Derraugh has planned a full day of fun for both the die-hard hockey fan and those who haven't discovered the joy of our beloved sport yet.

On
October 21, 2007, please join us at Lynah Rink for a full slate of on-ice and off-ice action. Doug has been kind enough to make this day not just about Cornell hockey, but also to promote all the local hockey programs. Wayde is seeking some volunteers, be it the girls or parents to help run some off ice activities in the Ramin Room. We would like to do three stations, one for slapshots with a radar gun, one for accuracy with Cornells shooter tutor, and a stickhandling course.

Shooting Stars girls hockey game to watch in the morning
Poster(or jersey, stick, etc.) signing by the women's team
Lots of off-ice activities in the Ramin room late a.m.
Food and drinks
Raffles
Women's hockey game at 1pm vs. Vermont,  and Men's exhibition game vs Ottawa at 4pm (Tickets available for $20 gets you in both games!)
Special t-shirt package for sale; $25 gets you a Cornell hockey tee and season tickets to womens hockey.

Cornell Men's Hockey Red-White Game

The 2007 Cornell men’s hockey Red-White Game will have an extra-special feel to it this season, as returning players from the Ned Harkness-coached national championship teams of 1967 and 1970 will be recognized on the ice between the first and second periods.

The traditional Red-White Game, which will be held at
7 p.m. on Oct. 13, 2007, at Lynah Rink, marks the official opening of the 2007-08 season for the Big Red, and is the first official day of practice for this year’s team.

The event will be preceded by the dedication of the Ned Harkness Alumni Room, the new multi-purpose room located off the main entrance to Lynah Rink. Harkness coached the Big Red from 1963 through 1970. His 1970 squad completed the only undefeated and untied season in modern collegiate hockey history, finishing 29-0-0. He led Cornell to a 163-27-2 mark in his seven seasons behind the Big Red bench.

The 2007-08 edition of the Big Red welcomes 14 lettermen from last season’s team that finished tied for fourth in ECAC Hockey and had an overall mark of 14-13-4. Cornell, which welcomes eight newcomers to the roster, including Riley Nash, the 21st overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, has been picked to finish fourth in ECAC Hockey this season in both the preseason coaches and media polls.

Admission for the Red and White Game is $3 for adults and $2 for students, with children under 12 admitted free. Tickets are not available in advance and will be sold as spectators enter Lynah Rink.  Seating will be general admission. In addition to the first look at this season’s team, the event will have raffles of Cornell memorabilia. Proceeds from the event will benefit Cornell Hockey.

Cornell Hockey Association Apparel Fund Raiser

Now until 10/28/07, The Cornell Hockey Association (booster group for men's and women's hockey) is running an on-line apparel fund raiser.  A portion of the proceeds is being donated back to the CHA.  This fund raiser includes a variety of Cornell Hockey apparel and caps that you are able to customize with your favorite player's number.
