New
women's league launches this fall
The Hockey News
Mere months
after one of only two women's elite hockey organizations in
And this time, the players themselves have taken matters into their own hands.
Created and
organized by local volunteer businesspeople and veteran Canadian Olympic Team
members such as Jennifer Botterill and Sami Jo Small, the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) will begin its season this fall with seven teams
based out of
"What makes
this league different is that many of the teams will be supported by the girls'
minor hockey associations in the communities in which the teams are
located," Small told TheHockeyNews.com.
The CWHL will kick off its inaugural campaign with

Volunteers
Needed
We've filled the Board positions and some key volunteer slots (THANKS!), but
there are still more volunteers needed to make our 2007-2008 season a
successful one:
Tournament Committee - We need a group who will run this year's Ithaca Shooting
Stars Invitational Tournament to be held Nov. 30-Dec. 2. This is an
annual classic event of TGHA's which only happens
through the dedication and hard work of TGHA volunteers. With the tournament we
raise funds that support the entire association while offering an opportunity
for teams to play and for spectators to view our sport.
Adult Education- Remember Carol's great sessions that everyone needed to take
this past season? Each year all adults (volunteers and parents, new and
continuing) need to participate in Adult Education so we need someone to head
it up this year.
Open House and Banquet - Need I say more? We need someone (or a
committee) to help run these two annual events with us.
35th Anniversary Celebration - This is TGHA's 35th Anniversary. If someone has ideas on how we
could celebrate this, it is a great way to bring attention to what TGHA stands
for and to help keep our alumni involved and connected.
Marketing Committee- Do you have ideas about how to get the word out about TGHA
to prospective members? Are you able to help distribute information to places
where girls go in your community?
If you are interested in any of these roles, please contact Mary Grainger
(MMGIthaca@aol.com) or Matt Ulinski
