Monday, October 22, 6:30 pm                   The RINK       Try Girls Hockey
Monday, October 29, 6:30 pm                   The RINK       TGHA Open House

# Attached is a flier that has been distributed at schools to announce Sept. 16 registration for newcomer hockey players for both IYHA and TGHA; feel free to share it with your friends, family, neighbors, work colleagues, etc.

Another flier will be created to announce the special events in October, but you can tell people you know about the events designed for newcomers--Try Girls Hockey is when beginners put on equipment and hold a stick while skating with current players and coaches welcoming them.  Beginning hockey players skate and socialize with returning TGHA members at the annual fun Open House. Information and a chance to register occur both Mondays Oct. 22 and 29.

If you are unable to attend a registration session, I’m happy to find a time to be available to collect your forms and fees.  Please contact me, Cathy Long, TGHA Registrar, 257-4005. You may also send information to the TGHA postal mailbox (Attn: TGHA Registrar,
PO Box 3962, Ithaca, NY 14852) for non-time sensitive information.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL FORMS AND PAYMENT as noted below ARE REQUIRED BEFORE PARTICIPANTS GET ON THE ICE.

What to bring to registration:

Register on-line with USA Hockey before you come to Team Formation or to Registration at Cass Park; and bring a printed copy of your registration confirmation. All returning players, coaches, and newcomers must be registered with USAHockey prior to going on the ice.  Cost is $33 to USAH if over age 6.  See USA Hockey website for instructions:  www.usahockeyregistration.com.  A parent/guardian must complete the registration for girls who are under age 18.  TGHA will reimburse coaches for their USAH registration (and for training expenses).

If you do not have internet access or need to make arrangements for a form of payment to USAH other than credit/debit card, please contact TGHA Registrar Cathy Long, 257-4005, cel3@cornell.edu.

Complete the following forms.

What is House, Recreation and Initiation?

Regular Season information will soon be announced (and distributed at the Sept. 16 Registration Day), as well as the Preseason Skates schedule for those who register before Open House.

Open House gathers all members of the TGHA community together so mark your calendars.  It's our 35th Anniversary so get ready to celebrate as well as enjoy the season.

Try Girls Hockey is a chance for newcomers to experience wearing hockey equipment, holding a stick, smiling through a face protector, etc.!  Continuing members are encouraged to attend to assist newcomers...and bring friends who would like to join you on the ice!

Initiation= beginners of any age learn to skate in hockey skates and play the game

House= after Initiation, elementary and middle school girls play House where they learn more and play hockey

Recreation=middle and high school girls who have completed Initiation, but are not interested in playing on a Travel Team

TGHA Wants Your [Spare] Hockey Gear

Do you have any extra hockey gear?  I will be accepting donations to TGHA's equipment collection during Team Formation times and at
Cass Park on Sunday. This equipment is used by players who are new to hockey and want to try the sport out without making a big initial investment and by those who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford new gear.

From the IRS, "If you give property to a qualified organization you generally can deduct the fair market value of the property at the time of the contribution.  TGHA is a qualified organization. TGHA can provide you with a letter for your tax records, but we don't have any way to appraise your donations.   IRS Publication 526 has more info on charitable contributions.
