All TGHA Girls--Skate on Mondays This Summer!

There's seven weeks of TGHA sponsored hockey this summer, not six as previously advertised!  That makes it a bigger discount if you sign up for all seven for $80.00 reather than paying $15 per week!  It's a happy accident that YOU can benefit from by registering soon!  We'd like to know who will be the regular full time girls, and it's helpful to know who else will be dropping in for an occasional night of fun and skill development suited to each week's participants!

Send an email to let us know of your interest and schedule.  It helps to have an idea of the numbers before the first session on Monday, July 16. Spread the word to others you know who might be interested in participating in one session or the entire series!

Cornell women's hockey team captain Brianne Schmidt has volunteered to lead the program working with the board and the TGHA head coaches! Come join us on Mondays for skills, skating, and game development. TGHA travel as well as house/initiation coaches and guest coaches will participate in these sessions along with Cornell players!

Mondays  6:00-8:00 pm
July 16th, 23rd and 30th
 August 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th

The RINK

Girls hockey players registered with USA Hockey (if you were registered for 2006-2007 season you are covered!  Non-TGHA females must  show their  registration for USA Hockey insurance coverage.)

Depending on who signs up we will be splitting up the ice based on age and ability so that each participant is offered appropriate level practice and scrimmage opportunities. A confirmation message will clarify.  Last year the younger players started at 6:00 and older ones were told to  come on the ice starting at 6:30 or 6:45.

Full equipment is required. If anyone has equipment needs please send a message to the email below.

$15  per session or $80 for the seven sessions

Please make checks out to TGHA - in the memo write Summer Hockey
Bring to first session you attend or mail to TGHA PO Box 3962, Ithaca 14852

Wednesday Night Skates at Lynah

The adult women who welcomed girls ages 12+ this spring have announced their extended program for the summer. There will be weekly scrimmages at Lynah Rink on Wednesdays from 8-9 pm for the following dates: July 11th and 18th (not the 25th because of the adult women's hockey camp)  August 8, 15, 22, 29 (ice on the 22nd is 7:30-8:30).
Cost is $10 (pay as you go).  We'll see how the first week goes and then make any necessary modifications (like requiring an email heads-up if you plan on attending).

Recreation Program Returns

TGHA's House Rec program has been run in the past to give older players, who are too old to play on the regular House team and are either not interested or don't have the time to play on a Travel team.  In order for us to plan, we would need to know enough girls are interested to make this happen.  If you are interested in playing on a House Rec Team please contact Karen Muckstadt. (skemuck@yahoo.com).

From Penalty Box Sports

FALL SEASON 2007 WILL BE OUR FINAL SEASON!!!!!!

We have had a great time running Penalty Box Sports, and it is especially rewarding to play alongside people of all ages who are wearing things they bought at our store, and are now enjoying ice hockey.   We have outfitted so many people in the short time we have been open.   Now, we are moving on to other ventures in our lives and we are going to have one final season.

The store is filled with really great hockey gear, most of it new, at tremendous prices.   Every purchase will be rewarded with a free accessory.   Call for an appointment in July, or stop in August, September or October during business hours TBA.

Please call - 607-351-4453 to make arrangements.

Good deals on all inventory!!  Everything must go!

Effective May 20, 2007 - we will no longer be buying back any used equipment or accepting any returns.  All sales are final.

Our store is located at 980 Dryden Road (Rt. 366) - on the corner of Rt. 366 and Freese Road.  It is approximately  1 1/2 miles north of Lynah Rink.  There is plently of parking in the rear of the building.

Thanks,

Happy 35, Title IX

Every one of our daughters has been helped by Title IX, the federal law passed on June 23, 1972. Title IX outlaws gender discrimination in education, and while it’s most often associated with gender fairness in sports, the law continues to address gender equality in all areas of education. You can find out much more by visiting http://www.titleix.info but here are just a few benefits brought by 35 years of Title IX: Many more girls get prepared for challenging and lucrative work in science, math, and technology; schools are safer because of anti-sexual harassment provisions; girls’ sports participation has skyrocketed; and female access to higher education has zoomed from the no-female entry policies of many pre-1970s era schools to the current majority-female status of many universities.

So raise a toast today to all the brave women and men who made Title IX happen! And then zip over to http://savetitleix.org/. Our work isn’t finished—Title IX is threatened by lawsuits, protests and weakened federal guidelines. And it’s still a fact that private schools aren’t required to follow Title IX rules, as Lily, a 5th-grader in Pelham, New York (pictured), discovered after speaking up about unfair conditions for girls’ sports at her school. With our support, our granddaughters—and grandsons!—will blossom from the same simple ethos of equality.
