Cortland Camps Open to Girls

We would appreciate you passing along information on our summer hockey camps at the JM McDonald Sports Complex in Cortland. The CNY Goalie Camp may be the most interesting to your youth hockey participants as there are not many specialized goalie camps in our area.  Thank you in advance for your willingness to share this information with your participants.

CNY Goalie Camp – Featuring Coach Joe Baldarotta, SUNY Cortland Men’s Hockey Coach.  August 23 – 24, 2008.  This camp will provide specialized training for GOALIES ONLY.  Coach Joe will personally teach this camp so you will get hands on training directly from an expert Goalie Coach.  This camp will run from 9 am – 6 pm on Saturday and 9 am – Noon on Sunday.  Registration fee is $175/goalie.  This is a bargain for 9 hours of ice time and personalized coaching instruction from one of the best in CNY.  You will not find another camp in the area focused on meeting the needs of goalies only. This camp is for all youth hockey levels - MITES through MIDGETS.  The 1st 6 Mite/Squirts and 1st 6 PeeWee/Bantams (total of 12 goalies) to register for this camp will also receive FREE admission to the McDonald Hockey School detailed below.  To obtain a registration form please go to our website link below or contact us at 607-753-8100.

McDonald Hockey School – August 24 – 27, 2008.  This camp will also be instructed by Coach Joe Baldarotta from the SUNY Cortland Men’s Hockey program. This school will help all levels of hockey players develop their skills. We will focus on skating, passing and shooting.  This is an excellent opportunity to get superior coaching instruction from a college level coach and his staff.  Coach Joe will personally teach this camp, unlike some other hockey schools.  Registration fee is only $185 / participant for this day camp.  For more information on the schedule and activities of this camp, please visit our website link below or contact us at 607-753-8100.

Pre-Season Hockey Camp – September 8 - 12, 2008.  We will also be holding our Pre-Season Hockey Camp in September that will offer a lower cost alternative to our youth hockey families due to the generous sponsorship from Pomeroy Armstrong & Casullo, LLP.  This camp will be divided into 2 sessions by age group. 5:45 – 7:15 Mites & Squirts, 7:30 – 9:00 pm PeeWees & Bantams. Registration fee is only $70.  This camp is perfect for those players who have not attended a summer camp and want to sharpen their skills before the youth hockey season begins.  To obtain a registration form please go to our website link below or contact us at 607-753-8100.

Celebrate the Opening of the Sports Museum of America

On May 7, 2008, the Sports Museum of America officially opened to the public at 26 Broadway in lower Manhattan.

www.womenssportsfoundation.org

The Women’s Sports Foundation is pleased to announce the official opening of the Sports Museum of America and the Billie Jean King International Women’s Sports Center, a wing of the new, downtown Manhattan museum. The museum will also house the first permanent home for the International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame.

On May 6 in a special pre-opening event, His Honor, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg of New York welcomed the museum and its founder and CEO, Philip Schwalb. Among the honored guests and speakers was Women’s Sports Foundation Founder, Billie Jean King, who said, “I am personally honored to have parts of my career reflected here; who would've thought my grade school report cards would end up in a museum someday? All of us at the Women’s Sports Foundation are honored to be part of this exciting project. Our wing in the Sports Museum of America will be the only museum exhibit and hall of fame dedicated exclusively to female athletes."

Other athletes in attendance included Lyn St. James, Aimee Mullins, Martina Navratilova, Bonnie Blair and Donna de Varona. These athletes gathered together in front of the Sports Museum of America and the “Canyon of Heroes,” the site of the famed ticker-tape parades for athletes returning in triumph.

“I am proud to be a member of the Board of Honorary Trustees for the Sports Museum of America and to share in the values that sports inspire through the SmA and the Billie Jean King International Women's Sports Center,” said Aimee Mullins, Women’s Sports Foundation President.

Explore the new “International Women’s Sports Center” section to find out more about visiting the museum, featured exhibits, events at the Sports Museum of America and, of course, the Billie Jean King International Women’s Sports Center.
