Cornell in Playoffs

Good luck on Friday and Saturday at Harvard!

Congrats Rebecca!

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell freshman forward Rebecca Johnston was a unanimous selection as the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in women's ice hockey, the league office announced on Wednesday following voting conducted by the league's coaches. Johnston becomes the Big Red's first Ivy League Rookie of the Year since Dana Antal '99 received the award in 1996.

Johnston, who leads the Big Red with 26 points on 12 goals and 14 assists in 20 games, was also the top rookie scorer among Ancient Eight schools. Johnston's 1.30 points-per-game average ranked her fifth overall among Ivy League players and fourth nationally in freshman scoring.

In addition to being selected as the league's rookie of the year, Johnston, a native of Sudbury, Ontario, was also named to the All-Ivy League First Team. She becomes the first Cornell women's hockey player selected to the first team since Robin Thompson and Janna Dewar were both selected as first-teamers in 1997-98.

The Big Red women enter postseason play for the first time since the 2003-04 season this weekend when they travel to No. 1 Harvard for the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinal Series. The best-of-three series begins at 7 p.m. at the Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge, Mass., on Friday, Feb. 29.
