Parents--Code Reminders
Parents
and caregivers annually sign a Code of Conduct when the girls register to play
ice hockey. TGHA is affirming the Code
by posting sections on our rink bulletin boards and in TGHA All messages:
"I
recognize the importance of volunteer coaches and their impact on the
development of my child and to the sport of hockey. By providing a positive example of treating
all coaches with respect, I will encourage my child to treat her coach with
respect."
Parent Education on Monday
Monday
January 28 is Parent Education Night for Initiation, House and Recreation
players' adults at The RINK. Every
family is strongly encouraged to send a representative to Rick's Room where a
DVD will be playing starting at 6:00 p.m.
About 6:15 p.m. a panel discussion will begin. The DVD will be shown again after the live
presentation by TGHA coaches and board members.
The focus will be on entry level girls hockey rather than issues of
travel teams, etc. We hope it will be
worthy of your attention and time.
Ithaca Sports Hall of Fame Friday
Last
January TGHA and Cornell alumna Leanna House was the first hockey player
inducted in the Ithaca Sports Hall of Fame (as hockey wasn't a school sport
until 1999 she was recognized for other sports). This Friday Melissa Gambrell will be
inducted. She was also TGHA and Cornell
hockey...read The Ithaca Journal for more about her sports career!
Pink at the Rink
Cornell
Women's Ice Hockey has a very special weekend coming up on February 8th and 9th
when they play Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
That weekend they will be wearing pink Cornell jerseys to be auctioned
off for Cancer. "Pink at the
Rink" is an ECAC hockey league program.
The league has joined with American Cancer society to create a new
variation of a traditional Coaches vs. Cancer program that provides critical
outreach, while raising funds in support of the American Cancer Society's
lifesaving cancer research, education, advocacy, and community service
efforts. ECAC hockey women's teams will
be wearing pink jerseys for their home games February 8, 9 and February 15, 16.
All of
the Pink jerseys will be auctioned off for a minimum bid of $150 starting
January 22 at 9 am and ending February 20 at 9 am. The cost of the production of the jerseys was
small and the difference between the cost of the jersey and the price sold will
all go to the Pink at the Rink fundraiser.
There is also a buy it now feature to guarantee the jersey for
$250. The website for the auction is www.ecachockeycoachesvscancer.com
(please check after January 22) or www.ecachockey.com. It would be great to have all of the jerseys
of the 12 teams auctioned off by the closing date. Please tell your family and friends about the
jerseys.
If anyone
would just like to donate to the cause itself.
Please make a check to the ECAC Hockey/CVC and all of the money will be
pooled and a big check will be given to the American Cancer Society after the
auction date is over, February 20.
We would
love to see you at those games ( dressed in pink of course : ) to support both
cancer and women's ice hockey.
