Reminders for Tonight
Snowy weather is predicted. If the roads are open and Cass is
open, TGHA practices will occur. Coaches sometimes will cancel, but families
can decide not to attend if roads are treacherous; travel team coaches have
expectations to be notified if girls are not able to make it to practice.
TGHA Picture Days This Week for individual photos for Initiation and
House on both Thursday, December 7. Please arrive 15 minutes early so
that the girls will still get plenty of time to skate as well as be
photographed. Jerseys will be available for girls to wear for their individual
shots. although returning players can wear their own. Team photos of these two
groups will be taken in late January (date to be determined) so all players can
be included.
19U will also occur on Thursday. Bring your uniform jerseys and decide as
a team what color to wear. There is a flier on the web site and it will
be available at all photo sessions about photos and with pricing - and also note
the following specials: The package of one 4x6 individual and one 5x7 team
picture for the price of $ 7.50. All photos will be of good quality and can
include the child’s name, year, and TGHA along the side of each picture.
Please specify name, nickname, or no name. Additional prints may be ordered at
any time in sizes: 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, and posters: 12x18 and 20x30 - all at reduced
rates. Specialty items such as sports cards, magazine covers, and other items
can be ordered as well.
Parent Education is offered especially for Initation and House parents
are set for Thursday Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at Cass Park with Coach Carol.
TGHA Apparel Payments Due by Thursday for orders placed by email or phone
before Thanksgiving, according to Lita Remsen. Please get checks written to
TGHA to her by the end of Thursday practice, or be in touch about using the
mail. litarem@gmail.com

Message from Tournament Chair
Dear TGHA parents, players, coaches, families, and friends,
Thank you for your help in making last weekend's TGHA Shooting Stars
Invitational Tournament a huge success! You covered more than 110 volunteer
positions during 40 games, allowing over 400 girls from 24 teams to play in our
tournament. Your friendly, welcoming presence made the weekend enjoyable for
everyone.
Your time and dedication is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Cathy Long

her an email!
Initiation Enrollment Continues
This message has been sent to the media!
Tompkins Girls Hockey Association enrolls beginners on a rolling basis
throughout the winter, but there is special emphasis on girls joining in January
for half of the season. The Initiation program introduces girls of any age to
skating and to playing ice hockey.
Girls in Initiation receive lessons and play games at the beginner level on
Mondays at 6:00 p.m. at The RINK and Thursdays at 5:15 p.m at Cass Park.
Coached by Carol Mullins, there is an emphasis on having fun while safely
learning the fundamentals of the game of ice hockey. They advance to the House
program whenever they are deemed ready by the trained coaching staff.
For information about registration, equipment, and scholarships, call 257-3268
or email TGHA0607@yahoo.com. Details
can be found at
www.ithacagirlshockey.com.
Help with Publicity Needed
As we encourage newcomers to join after the holidays, there will be fliers
available promoting this. If you could help hand out fliers at school skating
or public skating or figure skating, let Mary know since those venues are often
where new hockey players are before joining TGHA! Indoor soccer is another
place where we have recruited beginners in the past! See email and phone below
or use the TGHA0607@yahoo.com.
Tuesday Schedule Change
During the time when there are no classes at Cornell, the Tuesday Lynah Rink
practices are earlier. Girls on 14U and 16U should watch for news from their
coaches/managers on the exact times and dates.
Skate Sharpening Update
Ambis Skate Sharpening at Phil's Skate Shop
The commitment to professional skate sharpening at Ambis is continuing.
Phil's brother Ed has reorganized the business at its existing location on
Willow Ave. next to The Haunt. The shop is staffed part-time by four people who
are quite good at sharpening skates and take pride in their work. That's the
only explanation as they are all volunteers. The new name of the business is
Phil's Skate Shop.
Sharpening, skate repairs, blade replacements, skate boot baking (yes they have
an oven). They also have a supply of tape, laces, screws and helmet pieces.
Shop Hours:
Monday - on call 342-6538
Tuesday and Thursday 4:00-7:00 PM
Saturday 8:00-10:00 AM
Emergencies - call 342-6538 and someone will arrange to meet you.
When the shop is closed, skate drop-off and pick-up can be made at Inlet Glass &
Mirror, across the street from Ambis.
Because of the volunteer nature of the small staff, there may be times when the
shop cannot be open. You can call at 273-2326 during their posted hours to check
if they are open.
Vintage Jerseys and Socks for Sale
TGHA has discovered some old style (circa 1970s) 'sweaters' worn how the
players now wear jerseys and some jerseys (circa 1990s) and some game socks that
match the royal blue and gold of these jerseys. They are on sale to benefit
TGHA, and could make special holiday gifts for your player! Mary will have them
at Cass on Thursday 12/7, or you can reserve by email or phone. $10 each for
sweaters or jerseys and $5 for socks. (PS The sweaters wouldn't fit over
today's protective gear, but would make great lounge wear or pjs!)
