Spread the Word
Newcomers are welcome to attend Open House to learn about TGHA. Attached is
a poster you can use to help spread the word to your friends and neighbors!
Welcome to Newcomers
Over 20 new emails were added to this newsletter list after the
well-attended Try Girls Hockey event last Monday.
Equipment Handout
Attached is a handout that was supposed to be at Try Girls Hockey. It
is also a link off of the TGHA web site www.ithacagirlshockey.com. It
has some useful advice for new hockey players. Note: 'sweater' refers to
a hockey jersey! Also beginning players don't always start with shoulder
pads and pelvic protectors and garter belts. It's often advisable for the
smallest girls to wear snowpants or sweatpants instead
of dealing with hockey socks; ski gloves can work in place of hockey gloves,
too. Other equipment is very necessary for learning the fundamentals in a
safe and fun way in Initiation.
Equipment Donations Time
Open House is a great time to return gear you have borrowed in the past but
aren't using now, or to bring in other gear to donate to the TGHA equipment
loan supply! Matt Ulinski will be collecting
it, and can also be reached at 257-5600, mattulinski@verizon.net.
Equipment will be loaned for the season starting on October 30 and on November
6 from The RINK storage area. If you need equipment for November 2 at
Used Equipment Sales
Penalty Box Sports in Varna is a very friendly place to shop for your used
hockey equipment needs, and Instant Replay is very conveniently located at The
RINK (they will have many items on display on October 30 during Open House).
If you are a TGHA coach or team
volunteer please see Carol Mullins on Thursday or Monday to complete volunteer
screening paperwork. Any volunteer who may be in close proximity
to the children should be screened including coaches, team managers, and board
members.
IHS Boys Hockey Fundraiser
Take a break from the ordinary and experience the cuisine, service and
hospitality of the Ithaca High School Boys Varsity Hockey Team!
This Friday, October 27th
At the Eagles Club (behind Wegmans on
The players will be serving up mountains of spaghetti, salad, bread, soda,
coffee, and ice cream for dessert. You can buy tickets from any of the
varsity players, or call Mike Lofgren at 272-4983. Tickets can also be
purchased at the door.
Price is only $6 for adults and $4 for children under 12. What a great
bargain …… and hey, you’re helping to support an amazing group of players
too. Most of these guys came up through our IYHA program. These
fellows have been working hard for years, building their skills and knowledge
of the game from Initiation through Bantams/Midgets. Let’s fill the
Eagle’s Club Friday night and show them how much their friends and family
support their dedication and commitment to playing the game of hockey.
Cornell hockey: Teddy Bear Toss aims to raise $10K for charities

The Steve Garner Teddy Bear Toss, initiated by Big Red junior forward Topher Scott, has a goal of raising $10,000 for the two
charities.

The culmination of the event will take following the Saturday, Oct. 28 game
against Rochester Institute of Technology. Fans who
have purchased bears are asked to toss them onto the ice following the game,
will all bears collected being donated to the Ithaca Cops and Kids program.
The program has been named after the late Steve Garner, who died last May.
Garner, a longtime Cornell hockey supporter, was the president of Tompkins
Trust Co. “It seemed right to recognize him for all the great work he has
done,” Scott said. “Being able to recognize him for a lot of people in Ithaca
would be something great
