Welcome Newcomers 10/17

All girls and parents of Initiation and House are encouraged to attend the Try Girls Hockey night described below.  We will be welcoming new families and you can help show them how to skate and hold a hockey stick, etc. as well as how their equipment should fit!  You'll get to skate, too!  Tell all your friends to come and 'try girls hockey' with you!

Sunday 10/15 Equipment Closet Open!

It’s that time of year again, and families in need of equipment are welcome to come and find it from TGHA.

TGHA Equipment will be available for try on and loan on Sunday, October 15 from
1 to 4 pm at the McCutcheon household at 305 The Parkway!

Any TGHA player who would like to find some equipment for this season is welcome to come and try it on.  TGHA has skates, pads, jerseys and even goalie equipment ready to be loaned out for the season.

If you have equipment you borrowed last year that you can return, or some you would like to donate, Sunday would be a great day for that, too.

For questions or directions, please e-mail Lisa McCutcheon at mclisa@twcny.rr.com

Board Meetings Open to TGHA Membership

Thurs. 10/13  TGHA Board Meeting 7:30 p.m.
Cayuga Heights Fire Station Meeting Room

Wear your TGHA Colors!

On Friday Oct. 14 all members of the TGHA community are encouraged to wear a hockey jersey or sweatshirt or something else that identifies them as being a hockey player.  Since we have events 10/17 and 10/24 to welcome newcomers you may find you have a reason to tell people about the events when they ask you about your cool hockey clothing! While the focus of our recruiting is elementary and middle school girls, it can help if high school and adults wear their TGHA Colors, too, since you may find the person next to you in line during the day has a child, sibling, neighbor, friend who could start playing hockey this year!

Please help spread the word:
Girls Ice Hockey Events October 17 and 24

Two events are coming up to introduce girls to the sport of ice hockey on Monday, October 17 and Monday, October 24 at
6:30 p.m. at The RINK on East Shore Drive, just north of Ithaca.  Tompkins Girls Hockey Association will host new girls at "Try Girls Hockey" on the 17th and "Open House" on the 24th.  Both events are free and open to the public. No advance registration is needed.

On October 17, girls who have not played ice hockey before are invited to try on equipment  and participate in a fun learn-to-play evening run by TGHA President Carol Mullins with help from members of the Ithaca Shooting Stars teams and the TGHA Initiation and House League programs.

On October 24, newcomers are invited to the annual TGHA Open Houe.  All members of TGHA participate in this traditional "season kickoff".  There will be information on TGHA programs as well as a chance to skate (no hockey equipment is worn) and to socialize with other members of the community.

TGHA offers skating lessons for beginning ice hockey players in Initiation as well as skill development and scrimmages for girls in the House League program.  After participating in these programs,  many girls join the Ithaca Shooting Stars travel teams or other local ice hockey programs for older girls and young adults who like to play ice hockey.

TGHA has a generous scholarship program for girls who need assistance with the fees which are already kept low for all participants.  A used equipment loan program and a relationship with the One to One Big Brother Big Sister Program help decrease the obstacles to girls participation.

Newcomers are encouraged to contact Wendy with any questions they have at wendyb@twcny.rr.com, 256- 0669. TGHA's web site is another good source: www.ithacagirlshockey.com.

ALL Attend Open House 10/24
Initiation and House Can Attend Try Girls Hockey 10/17

Initiation and House girls and parents are encouraged to attend Try Girls Hockey on 10/17 at
6:30 p.m.  The Cornell team cannot help this year and we need you to help greet the new girls and help them try on equipment, learn to hold a stick and get around on the ice.  Parents are our best 'orientation counselors' visiting with newcomer parents.

ALL members of TGHA attend the annual Open House.  Wear an old jersey or something else from your hockey attire and your skates and come on the ice at
6:30 p.m. on 10/24. We'll all socialize with each other and with newcomers, and Carol Mullins and the Head Coaches will be on the ice with some surprises!  Door prizes and refreshments, too!  If you haven't registered by 10/24, the Registrar will be set up in the RINK lobby. (PS If you still have equipment to donate, this is another good time to bring it so the McCutcheons can add it to the TGHA local closet!)
