Girls Ice Hockey Signups Monday October 27
Tompkins Girls Hockey Association Annual Open House Scheduled
Girls of all ages are invited by Tompkins Girls Hockey
Association (TGHA) to its annual Open House on Monday October 27,
7:00-8:30 p.m. at The RINK, 1767 East Shore Drive. TGHA's coaches
and current players will greet prospective players on the ice.
Hockey skate rentals are free; full equipment isn't worn for this
event which introduces girls and their families to local girls
ice hockey offerings.
TGHA offers a progression of instructional and competitive
experiences beginning with elementary girls in Initiation who then
advance to the House League after one or two years. After
developing basic skills in Initiation and House, some girls choose
to join a travel team at the 12U, 14U, 16U or 19U age level.
Girls who are not interested in a Shooting Stars travel team can
participate in the Recreation team through high school. Adult
women who are beginners can also register with the TGHA Recreation
program.
TGHA offers scholarships and operates a used equipment loan
program. The regular season begins at the end of October so
registration usually occurs during or soon after the Open House.
Two special mentoring programs are also part of TGHA. The Cornell
Women's Hockey team are "Big Red Sisters" to the youngest girls in
the "Cub Club". TGHA also partners with the Big Brothers and Big
Sisters Program matching girls interested in playing hockey with a
"Big Brother" or "Big Sister" who provides rides to practices and
others supports.
