USA Hockey Women Update Tonight Dec. 15 is when Team USA is in Rochester to play Finland. They defeated Finland at a game in Reading, PA, 5-2. You can read more about the games and the team on www.usahockey.com. There will be a press conference on Dec. 27 to announce the final roster for the Olympics. Team USA Wins Sixth Game of Hilton Family Skate to 2006 Tour Ruggiero Scores Twice In 5-2 Win Over Hockey East All-Stars DURHAM, N.H. Angela Ruggiero (Harper Woods, Mich.) scored twice as the U.S. Women¹s National Team defeated the Hockey East All-Stars 5-2 at the Whittemore Center today. With the win, Team USA improved to 5-1-0 on its Hilton Family Skate to 2006 Tour. ³It¹s been difficult over the years to figure out where to get good competition with other women¹s teams,² said Ben Smith, head coach of the U.S. Women¹s National and Olympic Teams. ³This Hockey East Team is probably the college team that extended us the most. It says a lot about the growth of the women¹s game that we can find this sort of competition.² Midway through the first period, Kelly Law put the Hockey East All-Stars on the board when she lifted a shot to the far corner of the net. With just over three minutes remaining in the opening session, the All-Stars struck again when Cara Hendry placed a shot from the doorstep. Team USA rebounded quickly at the start of the second period, scoring two goals in just over two minutes. Natalie Darwitz (Eagan, Minn.) started the scoring when she picked up a pass from Jenny Potter (Edina, Minn.) and directed it to the low stick-side corner of the net. Kathleen Kauth (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) struck next when she redirected Kim Insalaco¹s (Rochester, N.Y.) pass through the crease and tied the game. Halfway through the third period with Team USA on the man-advantage, Ruggiero fired a slapshot from the point for the 3-2 U.S. lead. Ruggiero struck again just 1:04 later, when she lifted a rebound from low in the crease. Jamie Hagerman (N. Andover, Mass.) wrapped up the scoring at 16:10 when she put a wrister top shelf over Hockey East goaltender Kaitlyn Shain. Team USA returns to action on Wed., Dec. 14 in Reading, Pa., where the team will open a four-game series against Finland. Notes: Hockey East goaltender Kaitlyn Shain faced 46 U.S. shots in the loss ŠA crowd of 2,786 attended the game, which was broadcast live on CN8 and usahockey.com ŠTeam USA opens a stretch of four games in five nights starting on Wednesday ŠUSA Hockey hosted an alumni event following the game, and welcomed former players including Colleen Coyne, A.J.
