Girls/Women's Hockey in News

Below is the link to last week's Ithaca Journal story featuring a large headline announcing TGHA alumna Liz Yale-Loehr's college hockey team's success as the NCAA Division III Champions!  The Ithaca Furies women's team just returned from the Brampton Canadettes annual Easter tournament (the world's largest girls and women's hockey event!) with a silver medal in their division.  Kelly Pike, Cornell alumna and former TGHA coach, will be hosting an adult women's hockey tournament in late May; stay tuned.

InLine Hockey at Cass

Here’s a message from IYHA's In-Line Hockey Coordinator Joe Sullivan:
We are looking for boys and girls to sign up and support the summer club inline skates at
Cass Park. Adults will also be accommodated.  We start in May and end in Sept. There are over 20 skates, some with referees. The level is fast to medium.  It is also a great way to stay in shape. You won't find a workout this good in any club but ours.  The more who sign the more games we can have.  The cost is $125.00 plus USA Inline Hockey memberships. Younger groups will begin in late June and play thru August. Watch your E-Mail for details after you sign up.

Let me know if you are interested,
Joe Sullivan

Many Summer Camps and Clinics

There is no way to include in this e-newsletter or on the TGHA web site information on all available summer ice hockey camps and clinics!  One good source is the most recent issue of American Hockey magazine that all current TGHA members should be receiving (and this information is accessible at www.usahockey.com).  Another source of camp information is from each other; ask other hockey parents and players for their recommendations (a good use for your TGHA directory, or use your team email list).

TGHA is hoping to offer some summer ice times but local ice isn't very available this summer due to Cornell's Lynah Rink renovations (since Lynah users will be using The RINK).  TGHA members can sign up for coed programming at The RINK; brochures are available in the lobby.  Below is information about a clinic being held at the newer
Cortland rink that was sent to us by our friends with the Cortland Flames girls hockey team.

Here are the names, dates and contact info for a few camps that have sent their information to TGHA, although this is not an official endorsement of the camps.

THE BATTLE CAMP: The Signature Pro Ambitions Camp

The Cortland camp is: Aug. 21 - 25, 8:30 - 4:00 pm. They are advertising a session for mite/squirt and another for peewee/bantam.However, the organizers tell me that girls of any age are welcome.

www.proambitions.com

The signature Pro Ambitions Camp designed by Jeff to encompass game simulated battles. Hockey is a series of 1 on 1 battles all over the ice. Players will leave this camp with awesome skill development, a better understanding of the game and most importantly - knowing how to battle for loose pucks. This is also the curriculum that Jeff has copyrighted/trademarked and sold to many youth hockey organizations nationwide. He is extremely proud of this unique and necessary conceptual approach to teaching. It is a compilation of the best advice, drills, and game theory from his career. This camp is for all levels of players whether you're a mite b (like his daughter) or a bantam major player. (We suggest you have 1-2 years of active playing under your belt). We are the masters of "Circuit Training" and small area games, the kids are always moving and always being corrected with lots of repetitions in a fun and spirited environment whch fosters self confidence and great self esteem. 2500 kids came to our camps last year for a reason: We have the best coaches and best drills so at the end of the camp you're a better hockey player period!!!

Intimidate and Dominate is a term we like to instill in the kids' heads. We want players confident in their abilities and reflecting that edgy attitude on the ice in every drill. We want kids looking like hockey players and "Showing up" for every drill and looking the opponent in the eye and showing him/her you mean business. We make you practice better which in turn makes you play better. Come Kick IceSM with us!!!

5:1 ratio of player to Qualified Coaches (the lowest in the business), ages 7-14 yrs, kids will be grouped by age and ability and challenged accordingly as well as completely supervised the entire day (including helping kids tighten skates or help with equipment). Lastly, players and parents- do not shy away from the word "
Battle". We teach how to win the battles of hockey safely and effectively respecting the game and opponent.Mary M. Grainger
