TGHAers in the news!

*TGHA alumna Elizabeth Yale-Loehr scored the game winning goal for Middlebury College womens ice hockey in the D3 National Championship game!!!

*16U goalie Maegan Mikula was Eagle Broadcasting Athlete of the Week for her 22 shutouts this season!

*TGHA alumna and parent Sue Cosentini will be speaking on a panel of womens college hockey pioneers at the NCAA Frozen Four in Providence, RI, that begins Friday March 26.  Follow the hockey action online if you don't find in the media:

*Do you remember Sara and Dahia Naguib and their parents who moved to Maryland two years ago? Nora reads TGHA-All still and they are part of a growing program for girls in their area.  She wrote:

"You guys must be in the midst of planning the banquet.  We just had ours and I wanted to let you know that Sara received a very nice award in the Baltimore Youth Hockey club.  The Vivian Kovelman award is awarded annually to the girl who has made the single most significant contribution to her team with dedication to practice, development of her skills and performance in games.  The player who, with displays of character as much as talent, exemplifies girls' hockey at its best.

In addition to being a proud parent, I wanted to let you know about this because of the important influence that TGHA had on Sara in her formative years of hockey.  She has never forgotten "RSTG."  That emphasis on values that build character both on and off the ice, which was instilled by the TGHA coaches and family, has served Sara well.  With the Vivian Kovelman award, she has been recognized not only for her hockey skills, but more importantly, for her character that serves as a role model for her teammates.

Thank you, TGHA, for your role in making this award possible!  Check out the Baltimore Youth Hockey website (www.byhstars.org) to see pictures of Sara receiving her award and the nominations she received.

I hope that you all are doing well.  Please give my regards to our TGHA friends!"

If you visit the web site you read about their 14U team winning their local tournament and both girls are pictured.  Sara also played on their older girl team.

*USOC Honors '98 Women's Ice Hockey Team

With their gold medal performance at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan, the U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team sparked Olympic dreams for girls everywhere. Team USA upset Canada, the favorite and four-time defending World Champion, for the first-ever gold in women’s Olympic hockey. Members of the 1998 U.S. Olympic Women’s Hockey Team included Chris Bailey, Laurie Baker, Alana Blahoski, Lisa Brown-Miller, Karyn Bye, Colleen Coyne, Sara DeCosta, Tricia Dunn, Cammi Granato, Katie King, Shelley Looney, Sue Merz, A.J. Mleczko, Tara Mounsey, Vicki Movsessian, Angela Ruggiero, Jennifer Schmidgall, Sarah Tueting, Gretchen Ulion and Sandra Whyte. Every member of the 1998 U.S. Women’s Ice Hockey Team was told at some point in her life that she couldn’t play ice hockey because she was a girl. That only served as motivation for them, however. Led by stars Cammi Granato, Karyn Bye, Shelley Looney, A.J. Mleczko and Sarah Tueting, the U.S.A.’s 3-1 victory in the gold medal game over Canada sparked a flood of emotion and pride rarely seen.
The U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame returns to its roots in Chicago where the charter class was enshrined in 1983, with such Olympic legends as speedskater Eric Heiden, Bob Beamon, Cassius Clay, Peggy Fleming, Al Oerter, Jesse Owens, Wilma Rudolph, Mark Spitz, Jim Thorpe and the 1980 Miracle on Ice Hockey Team.?

Annual additions continued through 1992, adding Olympic legends such as Bart Conner, Donna de Varona, Dorothy Hamill, Sugar Ray Leonard, Carl Lewis, Greg Louganis, Phil Mahre, John Naber and Mary Lou Retton.?

The Hall of Fame consists of 151 Distinguished Members, including 68 athletes from individual sports, five teams and 11 special contributors.?

Through April 14, fans are invited to log onto
usolympicteam.com, the official site of the U.S. Olympic Team, to vote for the athletes they feel are deserving of Hall of Fame induction. Participating online voters will be automatically entered to win one of three VIP trips to Chicago to attend the 2004 U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
