Good Luck to the Shooting Stars!

This weekend the 14U and 19U teams are competing in their respective Central Section Tournaments.  Depending on their record at the tournaments, they will be advancing to the New York State Tier 2 Tournaments, March 10-12.  The 12U teams did not have to play in a sectional tournament this year to be qualify for their age group "States" March 3-5.  Good luck to all the players and their coaches!

Senior Day at Cornell!

On Saturday Feb. 25, the six Cornell Women's Hockey seniors will be honored at their last home game.  Little sisters of the seniors are included in the post-game ceremony on the ice that recognizes them.  All Cub Club members (and others in TGHA who are available Saturday) are encouraged to attend the game and hang posters on the glass.  A reception follows the game.

Thanks Carol and Uncle Joe

Thanks to TGHA President Carol and the staff of Uncle Joe's for hosting TGHA members and family members who watched the medal round games there on Monday!

The 2006 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team added to the United States' medal count Monday, earning a bronze with its 4-0 victory over Finland in Torino. Kelly Stephens opened the scoring in the first period, while Katie King went on to score a natural hat trick and Chanda Gunn earned the shutout in goal.

If you want to read more, visit www.usahockey.com.  The USA women dealt with their defeat and moved on with great sportsmanship and grace.  See Chanda Gunn's journal at this site for an inside view.

Hockey to Watch Live 2006 and Beyond

During the Olympics, one TGHA dad asked about watching the ECACHL Women's Frozen Four this year.  Here's the scoop:

ECACHL Women’s Championship Moving to Highest Seed
Site to be determined week before championship game
ALBANY, N.Y. -- The ECAC Hockey League Championship will have an element of mystery on the women’s side this year, as the semifinals and championship game will take place at a site to be determined. How will that happen, you ask? The league staff, coaches and administrators are ready to jump into action after the quarterfinals conclude and will convene at the site of the highest remaining seed to stage the championship event. Having the site at the top seed will add to the championship experience and allows more fans to attend the games. The event will take place March 11-12, with the semifinal matchups on Saturday and the championship final Sunday afternoon.

A total of eight teams qualify for the women’s ECACHL Championship and will be seeded based on the final regular-season standings. The format for the quarterfinals features a best two-of-three game series and will be played the weekend of March 3-5 on the campuses of the higher-seeded teams. The winners of the quarterfinals series advance to the championship round.

Vote for Patty Kaz Award!

Hockey fans are familiar with the Hobey Baker Award for the best men's college hockey player of the year, but do you know about the women's college hockey award called the Patty Kazmaier Award?  Follow this link to read about the nominees and you can help decide this year's winner by casting your vote online.  (Note; the Graingers recommend you vote for Karen Thatcher, senior captain of Maura's college team the Providence College Friars, yet I also 'wrote in' a vote for Cornell's Jen Munhofen!)
