Cub Club 10th Anniversary Celebration

All of the TGHA Community is invited
to particpate in the 10th Anniversary Celebration of our Cub Club Program. The
event begins Saturday, February 11th at 4 pm at Lynah Rink when we'll cheer on
the Big Red as they challenge #3 ranked St. Lawrence University. Perhaps our
greatest expression of thanks to the Cornell team and staff for partnering with
TGHA in this mentoring program will be a huge turnout of cheering fans. Be sure
to bring the entire family!
During the second intermission there will be an opportunity for all Little and
Big Sister Alumni to skate a few laps on the ice with the Little Bear. Be sure
to wear your favorite TGHA jersey and to bring your skates. All skaters should
meet beneath the scoreboard 10 minutes before the end of the second period to be
laced up and ready to go after the Cornell Players leave the ice. We'll want to
get a group photo of everyone on the red line, so, parents be sure to bring
those cameras.
Following the game there will be a reception at the Cornell Big Red Barn for all
TGHA families and Cornell Women's Hockey Team affiliates. Food and beverages
will be served free of charge (donations welcome). We'll have remarks from the
Cornell Coaching Staff, Players and Cub Club graduates. A digital slide show
will revive those past memories. If you are not familiar with the Big Red Barn
follow this link to the Cornell campus map: http://www.cornell.edu/img/maps/small.pdf
We look forward to your participation in this event. If you can't attend but
have a special message you'd like to share with us regarding your Cub Club
experiences be sure to notify David Herrick at dherrick@twcny.rr.com or in
writing to; 1 Winner's Circle, Ithaca, New York 14850. Photographs are also
requested.
Thank you for supporting the Cub Club!

Cornell to Celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Feb. 11
(Editor's Note: TGHA members can watch the start of the Cornell women's
hockey game before they participate and then attend the Cub Club post-game
party, if they wish. TGHA famillies may want to share this information with
their friends if they are following the Cub Club/Cornell Hockey schedule
described above.)
The Cornell University Department of Athletics and Physical Education, in
conjunction with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, will hold its annual
celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Saturday, Feb. 11, at
Bartels Hall. The Big Red invites Ithaca and its surrounding communities to take
part in an evening full of activities beginning at 4:30 p.m. Admission to all
the events is free for girls ages 6-12.
National Girls and Women in Sports Day is a salute to the importance of sports
and fitness in the lives of girls and women. Cornell will celebrate by providing
girls with the opportunity to explore and experience a variety of varsity and
club sports, including gymnastics, soccer, lacrosse, softball, crew, fencing,
and rugby. Cornell Outdoor Education will once again give the first 25 girls to
sign up, with parental permission, the opportunity to explore the Lindseth
Climbing Wall, the largest indoor rock climbing wall in North America.
Exploration of all of the sports is encouraged, but participants are allowed to
choose which activities they would like to take part in.
Following the sports skills sessions the festivities will move to Newman Arena,
where the Big Red women's basketball team will take on the Yale Bulldogs in an
exciting Ivy League contest. The evening will come to a close with a post game
autograph social with the team.
Girls with a budding interest or passion for sports should come out for a
fantastic, fun-filled evening celebrating the great things that can be
accomplished by women in athletics!
Direct any questions to Chris Wlosinski, Director of Student-Athlete Support
Services, at 607-254-7472, or via email at
