Cold Forecast for Thursday

While we thought the last two Thursdays were cold, tomorrow's predictions are even more frigid.  Several of the TGHA coaches conferred today and they would like to make this announcement:

"The weather forecast for tomorrow evening warns of extreme cold and wind chill. Because weather conditions can change quickly in Central New York, we will make a decision by noon tomorrow whether practices will be held tomorrow evening at Cass Park. If the decision is made to cancel, it will be for TGHA as a whole."

IHS Girls Schedule Change

Last week's TGHA-All included notice that the IHS Girls Hockey team's game vs. Oswego for Jan. 19 was postponed to Jan. 26, but it has been scheduled for next Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 5:15 p.m at Cass Park vs. Oswego.  It is the annual "Senior Night" celebration as well as a competitive game between two regional rivals.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day
Nationally Feb. 9, At Ithaca College Feb. 6, At Cornell Feb. 12

Across the country thousands of sports educators, coaches, recreation directors, sponsors, students and parents will show their support of National Girls and Women in Sports Day on February 9. Based on the theme "More Than A Game", there will be events in 50 states to increase visibility and encourage participation of girls and women in athletics and physical activity.

Both local colleges have special plans that are free and open to girls of the community:  Ithaca College's celebration starts at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday February 6, and Cornell's at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, February 12.

Girls in grades 3-6 are invited to Ithaca College with check-in at the Ben Light Gymnasium of the Hill Center at 12:30 p.m.on Feb. 6. Before viewing the IC Women's Gymnastics meet at 2:00 p.m. there will be pre-meet activities including an obstacle course, basketball skills, team-building activities, face painting, and "Go Bombers" signs in support of the women gymnasts. During intermission there will be skill participation activities, and after the meet, athletes will sign autographs.  For more information, call 274-3793.

Elementary and middle school girls can register for Cornell's celebration starting at 4:45 p.m.on Feb. 12 at Bartels Hall; the first 100 girls will get free t-shirts. From 5:00-6:45 p.m. girls can explore and try sports such as soccer, lacrosse, softball, gymnastics, crew, equestrian, fencing, rugby, ultimate frisbee, badminton, and the climbing wall. After refreshments, they will attend the Cornell Women's Basketball game vs. University of Pennsylvania at 7:00 p.m. in Newman Arena.  An autograph session will follow the game. Ride the Distance

Alanna Hayes, former Cornell goaltender who grew up in Rochester and was a beloved member of the Cub Club, and Ian Burt, Cornell men's hockey alumnus, have recently married and they are spending their "honeymoon" on a cross country bike ride March 23-May 26 to raise money for the New York City's Strang Cancer Prevention Center.  They are seeking sponsors of any amount of funds.  For more info, go to
www.ridethedistance.org or call 212-794-4900 Ext. 156.  They will ride "3159 Miles for Our Loved Ones and Yours"
