IHS Sports Hall of Fame

On Friday January 27, the 2006 inductees in the Ithaca Sports Hall of Fame will be honored during intermission of the girls basketball games in the gymnasium.  This year is the first time for a girls ice hockey player to be honored.  Congratulations to Leanna House who wore the Big Red Cornell uniform after her years in Ithaca Shooting Stars blue and gold.  Leanna was also a soccer and track star for IHS whose sports career culminated as a Cornell senior when she served as captain of both the soccer and hockey teams!  Congratulations also to Leanna's coaches and parents for all of their support.

Message from Ed Ambis
Skate Sharpening

The initial response to our reopening has been great. I know of only two people who were unhappy with our results, and, hopefully, we have been able to make our peace with them. Everyone else has been thrilled to have the service back.

To date in an attempt to fill the void in the Hockey Community created by Philip's death I have started to build a Team to continue skate services. While it can never come close to what Philip meant to us, I believe we honor his memory in a very appropriate manner by sincerely trying to help our kids by providing skate services at the Shop.

We are in our third week of sharpening and repairing skates. To meet the growing need I have added a triple head Blademaster sharpener to those at the Shop. The Blademaster allows us more flexibility in customizing skates. By next week I'm excited to report we will have a new Blademaster skate oven and boot stretcher. For the first time all of us will have this service available locally.

Until further notice the Shop hours will continue on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Specifically, Tuesday hours will be
8:00 to 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday hours will be 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday will be 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The big change is the expanded hours on Thursday. Any changes to hours due to illness or other reason will be posted on the door of the Shop as Philip had done. The Shop phone--607-273-2326--is working, and the answering machine will be working by this Saturday, January 28.

My next message to you concerning the operation of the Shop will be not later than February 14th. Thanks so much. You and the wonderful people in our hockey community have allowed me to continue to work through this difficult time in my life in an energizing and inspiring way I could not have imagined four weeks ago. Thank you so much, Ed
