Angela Ruggiero Skates into Lynah

On Thursday July 17 everyone is invited to a "free skate" with two-time Olympian Angela Ruggiero at Lynah Rink at 5:00 p.m.  She'll sign autographs and talk about her life as a hockey player during her brief visit to Ithaca.  Ruggiero, who is known as the best defensive player in women's ice hockey, will be a guest coach that evening with the adult women's ice hockey clinic offered in conjunction with the Cornell Sports School.  Below is the news story about her most recent award:

Ruggiero Named USA Hockey Women's Player Of The Year
Harvard Junior Honored June 13-14
Colorado Springs, CO

Harvard junior defenseman Angela Ruggiero, a two-time U.S. Olympic medalist who helped lead the Crimson to the ECAC regular-season title and a berth in the NCAA National Championship game, has been named at the USA Hockey Women's Player of the Year. She will be honored June 13-14 during the 2003 USA Hockey Annual Congress at the Sheraton Colorado Springs Hotel and the Colorado Springs World Arena. USA Hockey annually salutes the accomplishments of an outstanding American-born women's hockey player with the USA Hockey Women's Player of the Year Award. Ruggiero finished fourth in the nation in scoring with 83 points, and third in the country with 54 assists. She led all defensemen in nearly every offensive category, as her 2.44 points-per-game average was more than a point better than any other defenseman. Ruggiero anchored a Crimson defense that allowed a nation's-best 1.47 goals per game. In 2002-03 Ruggiero was named a first-team All-America, and for the third time garnered First-Team All-ECAC and First-Team All-Ivy League honors. Ruggiero was a member of the New England Hockey Writers Association All-Star Team, and in March became one of three finalists for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, presented annually by The USA Hockey Foundation to the top women's intercollegiate varsity ice hockey player in the nation. In February, Ruggiero also was named to the 2003 U.S. Women's National Team for the fifth time.
