Ithaca
Shooting Stars Begin Hockey Season
As
Tompkins Girls Hockey Association turns 35 years old this month, there are
three Ithaca Shooting Stars girls hockey
travel teams. The two older teams (14U Shooting Stars and 16/19U
Shooting Stars) played games throughout October at the Tier 2 level of NYSAHA (New York State Amateur Hockey Association); the 13U
Shooting Stars are beginning their season in November.
The
14U girls team has split games with the Syracuse Stars
12U Tier 1 team winning 1-0 and losing 0-1. Goalie Angela Everhart made
20 saves in the loss, but only needed to make 10 in the win. Ali Pace
scored the one Ithaca goal in the pair of
games assisted by Marissa Ramos. They also split a pair with the Webster
Cyclones 14U Tier 2 team, 3-1 win, and 2-4 loss. Two goals were scored by
Catherine Watkins assisted by Carrie Wilder and Hannah Golay. Krystalyn Yonkin, Carolyn Dunk
and Wilder scored single goals with assists by Serena Mendola
and Ramos.
Against
the Rome Grizzlies 14Us, the Ithaca 14Us fell 6-2 with
Everhart stopping 32 shots. Lauren Herrick and Wilder scored in the
loss. They defeated the Buffalo Regals 14Us 4-0
with Everhart getting her second shutout of the season. Goals were scored
by Clara Karastury, Meredith Kirk, Pace and
Ramos. Assists were made by Ramos and Wilder.
Ithaca's 16/19U Shooting Stars
are playing this season as 16U Tier 2 for one third of their season and 19U
Tier 2 for the other games and tournaments so that several girls over
16 are able to play on the team. In the first game as 16U, Ithaca defeated Camillus
Cougars 16U Tier 2, 4-0. Goalie Sara Eisenhut stopped
11 shots for her first shutout of the season. Katie Long scored two goals
and had one assist while linemates Emily Eisenhut and Janesa Cornish
each had one goal and two assists. Colleen Dillon also had an
assist.
As
19U, the Ithaca Shooting Stars opened the season against the Pittsburgh
Amateur Penguins 19Us. Ithaca wasn't able to score a
goal in the two losses, 9-0 and 4-0. They also were defeated by the
Tri-County Eagles 19Us 4-2 with S. Eisenhut
making 23 saves. E. Eisenhut and
Long scored with Cornish making recording one assist. They have skated to two
tie games, 0-0 vs. the Amherst Knights 16U Tier 1 team and 5-5 vs. the local
adult women's travel team, the Ithaca Sirens. Against the Sirens,
Annabelle Jones stopped 15 shots in goal. Samantha Craig lead the
offense with two goals and one assist. Erin Grainger scored two goals and
E. Eisenhut one. Assists were made by Lauren
Cole, Kaitlin MacLean, Emma Hassen
and Gabe Klick. The
team also defeated the Syracuse Stars 19U Tier 2 team 3-1. Klick, E. Eisenhut and Craig
scored with assists from MacLean, Klick and Craig.
Both
Ithaca Shooting Stars teams will be playing in the Fire on Ice Girls Hockey
Tournament, Nov. 2-4 in Rochester.
